Market-Related Terms:

  • 시장 (sijang) – Market
  • 가게 (gage) – Shop/stall
  • 주인 (juin) – Shopkeeper
  • 물건 (mulgeon) – Goods/items
  • 가격 (gagyeok) – Price
  • 시식 (sisik) – Free sample

Food and Product Words:

  • 과일 (gwail) – Fruit
  • 채소 (chaeso) – Vegetables
  • 생선 (saengseon) – Fish
  • 고기 (gogi) – Meat
  • 전통 공예품 (jeontong gongyepum) – Traditional crafts

Asking About Products and Prices:

  • 이거 얼마예요? (igeo eolmayeyo?) – How much is this?
  • 신선한가요? (sinseonhangayo?) – Is it fresh?
  • 다른 색상이 있나요? (dareun saeksangi innayo?) – Do you have this in another color?

Negotiating Prices:

  • 조금 더 싸게 해 주실 수 있나요? (jogeum deo ssage hae jusil su innayo?) – Can you give me a discount?
  • 두 개 사면 할인되나요? (du gae samyeon harin doenayo?) – Is there a discount if I buy two?
  • 그럼 이 가격으로 드릴게요. (geureom i gagyeogeuro deurilgeyo.) – Okay, I’ll give it to you at this price.

Requesting and Tasting Samples:

  • 시식해 봐도 될까요? (sisikhae bwado doelkkayo?) – Can I try a sample?
  • 맛있어요! (masisseoyo!) – It’s delicious!



[3: Practice Dialogue ]

Scenario: Buying fruit at a market.

Customer:
안녕하세요. 이 사과 얼마예요?
(annyeonghaseyo. I sagwa eolmayeyo?) – Hello. How much are these apples?

Shopkeeper:
3
개에 5,000원입니다.
(se gae-e ocheon wonimnida.) – 3 for 5,000 won.

Customer:
조금 더 싸게 해 주실 수 있나요?
(jogeum deo ssage hae jusil su innayo?) – Can you make it a little cheaper?

Shopkeeper:
그럼 4,500원에 드릴게요.
(geureom saseonbaek won-e deurilgeyo.) – Then I’ll give it to you for 4,500 won.

Customer:
좋아요. 이거 살게요.
(joayo. Igeo salgeyo.) – Great. I’ll buy these.

Shopkeeper:
감사합니다. 또 오세요!
(gamsahamnida. Tto oseyo!) – Thank you. Come again!
