Today’s episode is all about socializing like a local in Korea.


[1: Key Vocabulary ]

“Here are some essential words for socializing:

  • 친구 (chingu) – Friend
  • 약속 (yaksok) – Appointment/Plans
  • 영화 (yeonghwa) – Movie
  • 식당 (sikdang) – Restaurant
  • 술집 (suljip) – Bar

[2: Useful Phrases ]

Making Plans:

  • '시간 있어요?' (Sigan isseoyo?) – Do you have time?
  • '우리 영화 보러 갈까요?' (Uri yeonghwa boreo galkkayo?) – Shall we go watch a movie?
  • '식당에서 저녁 먹을까요?' (Sikdang-eseo jeonyeok meogeulkkayo?) – Shall we have dinner at a restaurant?

At a Bar or Café:

  • '맥주 한 잔 할까요?' (Maekju han jan halkkayo?) – Shall we grab a beer?
  • '여기 정말 분위기 좋네요.' (Yeogi jeongmal bunwigi jonneyo.) – The atmosphere here is really nice.

Scenario: Making Dinner Plans

You:
시간 있어요? 우리 저녁 먹을까요?
(Sigan isseoyo? Uri jeonyeok meogeulkkayo?) – Do you have time? Shall we have dinner?

Friend:
좋아요! 어디로 갈까요?
(Joayo! Eodiro galkkayo?) – Sure! Where shall we go?

You:
한식당에서 먹을까요?
(Hansikdang-eseo meogeulkkayo?) – Shall we eat at a Korean restaurant?

Friend:
좋아요! 7시에 만나요.
(Joayo! Ilgop sie mannayo.) – Sounds good! Let’s meet at 7.


“Fantastic job today! 안녕히 가세요 (Annyeonghi gaseyo). Goodbye!”
