“First, let’s learn some basic vocabulary you’ll hear in a café. These words will help you understand orders and navigate your workspace.

Drink Names:

  • 커피 (keopi) – Coffee
  • 아메리카노 (amerikano) – Americano
  • 라떼 (latte) – Latte
  • (cha) – Tea
  • 아이스티 (aiseu-ti) – Iced tea

Customer-Related Words:

  • 손님 (sonnim) – Customer
  • 주문 (jumun) – Order
  • 음료 (eumnyo) – Beverage
  • 영수증 (yeongsujeung) – Receipt

Café-Related Words:

  • 카운터 (kaunteo) – Counter
  • 주문표 (jumunpyo) – Order slip
  • 머그컵 (meogeu-keop) – Mug
  • 테이크아웃 (teikeu-aut) – Takeout

  • 어떤 음료 드릴까요? (eotteon eumnyo deurilkkayo?) – What drink would you like?
  • 뜨겁게 드릴까요, 차갑게 드릴까요? (tteugeopge deurilkkayo, chagapge deurilkkayo?) – Would you like it hot or iced?

Clarifying Preferences:

  • 사이즈는 어떻게 하시겠어요? (saijeuneun eotteoke hasigesseoyo?) – What size would you like?
  • 머그컵에 드릴까요, 테이크아웃으로 드릴까요? (meogeu-keope deurilkkayo, teikeu-aut-euro deurilkkayo?) – Would you like it in a mug or to-go?

Serving Orders:

  • 여기 음료 나왔습니다. (yeogi eumnyo nawassseumnida.) – Here’s your drink.
  • 맛있게 드세요! (masitge deuseyo!) – Enjoy your drink!

Handling Payments:

  • 총 금액은 5,000원입니다. (chong geumaegeun ocheon won-imnida.) – The total is 5,000 won.
  • 영수증 필요하세요? (yeongsujeung piryo haseyo?) – Do you need a receipt?



[3: Practice Dialogue]

Barista: 

어서 오세요! 무엇을 드릴까요? (eoseo oseyo! Mueoseul deurilkkayo?) – Welcome! What can I get for you?

Customer:

아메리카노 주세요. (amerikano juseyo.) – I’ll have an Americano, please.

Barista:

뜨겁게 드릴까요, 차갑게 드릴까요? (tteugeopge deurilkkayo, chagapge deurilkkayo?) – Would you like it hot or iced?

Customer:

뜨겁게 주세요. (tteugeopge juseyo.) – Hot, please.

Barista:

머그컵에 드릴까요, 테이크아웃으로 드릴까요? (meogeu-keope deurilkkayo, teikeu-aut-euro deurilkkayo?) – Would you like it in a mug or to-go?

Customer:

테이크아웃으로 주세요. (teikeu-aut-euro juseyo.) – To-go, please.

Barista:

총 금액은 4,500원입니다. (chong geumaegeun saseonbaek won-imnida.) – The total is 4,500 won.
영수증 필요하세요? (yeongsujeung piryo haseyo?) – Do you need a receipt?

Customer:

, 주세요. (ne, juseyo.) – Yes, please.

Barista:

여기 있습니다. (yeogi itseumnida.) – Here you go.
맛있게 드세요! (masitge deuseyo!) – Enjoy your drink!
